Mary Carpenter age 92 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Sunday morning, March 29, 2015 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born December 25, 1922 in Berne, Indiana daughter of the late Joseph D. and Fannie (Eicher) Carpenter.
Mary resided most of her life in the Sturgis area. She had been employed by the Froh Community Home, now known as Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis and Denton Mills in Centreville. She also did housekeeping and child care.
Mary was a longtime member of the Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Burr Oak and she enjoyed crocheting and was famous for her yarn balls.
She is survived by four sisters: Bertha (David) Bontrager of Sturgis, Esther (Ralph) Troyer of Sturgis, Ann (Hezir) Araujo of Elkhart, Indiana and Edna Carpenter of Sturgis; two brothers: James (Faith) Carpenter of Sturgis and Robert (Lois) Neuenschwander of Lititz, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Joseph Carpenter, Jr. and Marcus Carpenter.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church, 29525 Findley Rd., Burr Oak. Funeral services celebrating the life of Mary Carpenter will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the church. The Pastor Bill Beck will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Locust Grove Cemetery.
The Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 is entrusted with the arrangements.
