Howard John Bauman age 76 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away early Tuesday morning, May 16, 2017 at Brookdale Portage Assisted Living in Portage, Michigan.
He was born February 9, 1941 in Sturgis, Michigan son of the late Arthur and Erma (Pridgeon) Bauman.
Howard was a lifelong Sturgis resident. On October 28, 1967 he married Sandra Pelkey in Three Rivers.
Howard retired from Grumman Olson (now known as Morgan Olson) in Sturgis following over 25 years of dedicated employment. He had also been employed by the Continental Can Company and Key Industries.
He loved the many years he lived at Fish Lake in Sturgis and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, wildlife and nature and anytime he was in the outdoors.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of nearly 50 years: Sandra; one sister: Susan (Gary) Harrell of Sturgis; one brother: Ronnie (Terri) Bauman of Jones and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and adopted sister: Helen.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Private burial of the ashes will take place at the Prairie River Cemetery in Centreville.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Bauman's memory consider the Kalamazoo Humane Society, 4239 S. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49008.
