Edna Rose Davenport age 91 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Wednesday afternoon March 25, 2015 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Three Rivers.
She was born December 12, 1923 in Wells County, Indiana daughter of the late Sylvester "Wes" and Grace Gertrude (Beaty) Dunwiddie.
Mrs. Davenport resided in the Sturgis and Constantine area most of her life.
On March 2, 1946 she married Frederick Moine Davenport in Sturgis. He died December 20, 1994.
She retired from Constantine Public Schools where she had been employed as a secretary for over 10 years. She also worked at the Laura Lewis Hat Shop in Sturgis and she was a dedicated homemaker, wife and mother.
Edna was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis and the Constantine United Methodist Church while she resided in Constantine. Some of her many involvements in her churches included serving as a Communion Steward and member of the Banner Committee, Treasurer of the Adult Sunday School Class and the Pastor Parish Committee. She was also a very active member of the Constantine American Legion Auxiliary #223 where she served as Past President, Post Historian, Girls State Co-Chairperson and Membership Chairperson. She also was a member of the Constantine Rotary Ann's and was a Cub Scout Den Mother and served as Co-Chairperson for the Constantine Red Cross Blood Mobile.
She is survived by two daughters: Panette "Pennie" (Fred) Edinger of Constantine and Janell (John) Hunter of St. Louis, Missouri; two sons: Kendal "Ken" (Linda) Davenport of Apache Junction, Arizona and Martin "Marty" (Diana) Davenport of Constantine; Seven grandchildren: Christine (Rick) Vokoun, Brad (Channa) Davenport, Julie Amarette (Shawn) Eckweilen, Rebecca Ann (Ryan) O'Day, Tyler Hunter, Trent (Kristy) Hunter and Drew (Christina) Hunter; 14 great grandchildren: Trey Vokoun, Lane Vokoun, Cruz Davenport, Chloe Davenport, Brady Syrek, Casey Syrek, Liam O'Day, Molly O'Day, Carson Hunter, Madelyn Hunter, Shae Hunter, Connor Hunter, Isaiah Hunter and Chase Hunter and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; great granddaughter: Baby Hope Hunter; one sister: Genevieve Teagle and four brother: Dale, Donald, William and Brooks Dunwiddie.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. A graveside service and burial will take place at 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Constantine Cemetery in Constantine. The Rev. Jeanne Koughn of the First United Methodist Church and Mrs. Davenport's grandsons: Pastor Trent Hunter and Pastor Drew Hunter will officiate.

Little Angels was dear to Edna as she has a grandchild in this nursing facility and over the years Edna enjoyed making over 100 bibs for the children there.
